2009 Trip Plans
In addition to club outings to local lakes and streams throughout the year, we plan overnight trips to wherever the fishing's supposed to be 1. outstanding 2. Different from the opportunities we have close to home. To be included in a trip, contact the organizing club member listed below.
If you know of somewhere else that's terrific, and would be willing to take the lead in making arrangements, tell the rest of the club and we may give it a go! Check this page regularly for updates on plans for 2009.

Annual ice-fishing excursion. Organized by Tom Miller, Monday, Jan. 5-Thursday, Jan. 9. Previous January trips to Lake Grandby have been generally cold and not sufficiently fishy. This year's Lake John excursion will probably be at least as cold, but there's talk of big rainbows and browns in this lake 16 miles northwest of Walden. Accommodations at "Round Up Motel," three persons per room, $26 per night tax included. Rooms have kitchens, one bunk bed and one double bed. Lake limit is four in possession. ATV's are okay, ice huts can be rented for $75 per day with room for six anglers. Tentative cap of 12 anglers, so sign up with Tom asap.
Oklahoma Catfish and Spoonbill Fishing! Here's another one from the mind of Norm Engelbrecht, which also brought as the legendary 2007 Kansas catfishing excursion. Norm says the approximate date is early to mid March, and a small spoonbill is supposed to run more than 30 pounds. All fishing equipment provided; cost is $115-120 for boat and guide, with motel in Grove, OK, running $25-30 per night per person. The lakes to be fished are the Grand Lake of the Cherokees and possibly nearby Oogolah Lake, about a 12-hour drive. In addition to catfish and spoonbills, there's potential for white bass, largemouth and crappie.
Annual Grey's Reef Float Fishing, organized by Ron Halverson, late April. First organized by the late Dick Bunce, this trip to Grey's Reef puts you on some of the finest catch and release trout fishing in the world. About $200 gets a float boat and guide for two anglers, and a motel in nearby Casper will set you back about $25 per person per night.
Annual Blue Mesa Kokanee Salmon and Lake Trout. Ray Park's again organizing this highly successful trip to Colorado's biggest lake, west of Gunnison. Three cabins have been reserved. Signups with Ray begin at December general meeting.
Annual Chambers Lake campout. This popular trip to high mountain lakes west of Fort Collins is organized by Lou Colton and tentatively set for mid August. There'll be opportunity for lake trout and rainbows in Chambers, and grayling at nearby Joe Wright. Details to come.
Mudderguard Lake trophy trout. John Gwinnup is organizing this first-ever trip, with the prospect of access to a private lake and streams near Buffalo, Wyo., and the nearby Mudderguard Lake, known for its outsized fish. Details to come.
